Homemaking Adventures

I'm not sure why, but suddenly I have gotten domestic.  I garden.  I cook.  I sew.  And I love it all.  I've developed a strange interest in cheese-making.  It's really amazing how easy it really is and how delicious.  So far I've made mozzarella twice.  The first time it was a bit hard--great for grating and melting, but not so great for Caprese Salad.  The second time it was delicious!!  My latest cheese-making adventure is Homemade cottage cheese.  I was getting so tired of buying watery cottage cheese in the stores.  It's just not the same cottage cheese that I used to get when I was young.  So I went searching the internet for a recipe.  Found one.  And it is SO easy and SO delicious.  Here's the link {here}
Yumm!  It is sweeter and less salty than store-bought cottage cheese.  And NOT watery at all.  Two quarts of whole milk will make 2 cups of cottage cheese.  Tomorrow I'm going to make artisan bread with the leftover whey.

I have also been so busy in the garden.  I took a gardening class at Thanksgiving point in March and have been so inspired and motivated. So far I  have these things growing (and doing well):
  • Peas
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Radishes
  • Asparagus
  • Rhubarb
  • Cabbage
  • Cilantro
  • Broccoli
  • Tomatoes

I'm feeling like Miss Muffet AND Mary Mary Quite Contrary!!

  1. Wow, I'm so excited for you! I really want to learn to make cheese, I'm going to try the mozzarella and cottage cheese thing too! Expect a phone call for instructions. :-) And Asparagus... yum! I looked at trying to grow that here but just couldn't think of anywhere to put it and wasn't sure I was up to it. I can't wait to see your bed this summer and get some tips. Way to go!
